Kate Zephyrhawke
Hi, I'm Kate Zephyrhawke, an English professor at a community college.
After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in English Literature, Kate Zephyrhawke postponed her goal of teaching in a community college by living in France for three years, both in Paris and in a country village not far from Provence. Her rich and wonderful adventure living in Europe provided a vital perspective on Americans, along with the valuable experience of being "a foreigner" in an adopted country. After her return to California, Kate Zephyrhawke pursued a master's in mass communications, and some years later a graduate degree in psychology. Life's twists and turns led her to Florida, another master's—in Rhetoric and Composition—and she now teaches English in a community college, her original career goal. She enjoys the diversity of age, race, and ethnicity in those who attend community college, and loves helping her students learn to think critically and express themselves with clarity and conviction.
Kate Zephyrhawke also does research with Dr. Mykol Hamilton of Centre College on revealing unconscious juror bias, with the aim of eliminating inequity in the justice system and helping to ensure that defendants will receive fair trials.
